This was achieved by increasing the base height and making access to the child easier. The design allows parents and carers to get closer to the child to reduce the impact of the weight of a child. Now it’s available in a smaller version suitable for everyone!
Why a specific cot such as the babyhood Mini Ergonomic Cot for the early learning sector?
In mid 2011, Work Safe Victoria discovered carers were suffering from multiple skeletal injuries. They were caused by the repeated manual handling and bending into cots.
The injuries caused varied but are primarily caused by the repeated bending into lower level cots. Work Safe Victoria proceeded to issue Early Learning Centres infringement notices and required centres to change their cots to a more suitable cot to reduce the injuries caused.
The options for Early Learning Centres were limited to Cots that did not meet Australian Standards or metal cots which didn’t meet the comfort and assurance requirements of parents and carers.
The next step . . .
In consultation with various associations including Work Safe Victoria, Kindergarten Parents Victoria (KPV), Good Start Childcare, Fair Trading Victoria, Fair Trading Queensland and one of Australia’s leading ergonomists Chris Fitzgerald, babyhood took up the challenge of developing a Cot specific for the this industry’s needs.
This was no easy task as it required new innovation, new technology and the consensus of all the related parties as to what was best for carers, babies and parents.
Almost 14 months later babyhood designed and manufactured the original Ergonomic Cot, which was proudly launched at the KPV Conference.
The unique Australian Patented* and Design Registered Cot was made to reduce the stress placed on carers by increasing the base height and making access to the child easier. The design allows carers to get closer to the child to reduce the impact of the weight of a child.
Standards and Regulatory Requirements.
The Original Ergonomic Cot is tested to AS/NZS 2172:2003 and complies with AS/NZS 2172:2010 – Australian Standard for Domestic use Cots as well as the Commercial Tip Test Standard.
The cot is tested by the highly regarded NATA accredited testing facility AFRDI (Australian Furnishing Research and Development Institute). This was done to ensure that the cot is safe and meets with the Standards noted above.

After the great success of the Original Ergonomic Cot, it become obvious that centres with smaller spaces as well as parents and grandparents would love the Ergonomic Cot. As a result, babyhood designed a smaller version with all the great features of the original, just smaller.

We have purchased this cot as our 2 month old is growing quickly but still sharing our room in a bassinet, so we wanted a small cot (hard to find). Our normal cot was way too large for our room so was starting to worry but found this.
This cot was a really good price. Wasn’t sure what the quality would be like as purchased online. We are soooo happy with it. It’s very well made and made from good quality materials. Glad we purchased it, we now wished we had it for our first.

We brought this one as it’s just like the ones that get used in child care centres and can be easily moved around the house and you don’t have to bend your back right down to get to your baby like other cots. Glad I brought it!

As we live in a 1 bedroom apartment, the Mini size is great as we could fit this cot into our bedroom (so that bub’s near us at night). And with the wheels, we could also push the cot out into the living room for those times that we have visitors. 🙂 Built wise, it’s solid and steady.

We didn’t realise how great the cot was until we had a few nights at Grandma and Grandpa’s with a traditional cot. In just a couple of days our backs were already hurting!

Ordered the mini ergo cot online, received it within 3 days. The instructions said you need two people to put it together but I did it by myself, instructions were very easy to follow. Beautiful cot just the right size for my 14 month old granddaughter when she comes to visit. Great size if you don’t have a big guest room, doesn’t take up much room.

So happy I found this cot to purchase. I look after my granddaughter 2 full days each week & once she needed her porta-cot base lowered, my back started to suffer. The Mini Ergo Cot is such great quality, looks sleek & it so user friendly.
